Her work in India has led her into managing many campaigns and fund raising events, as well as helping many individuals turn their lives around .
During the last five years Helen has also been producing short films and documentaries. A YouTube channel she co-manages has reached over half a million subscribers and her first film was commissioned by UK’s Channel 5 in 2016 before being aired on Discovery.
She is continuously working on new projects and is passionate about the topics she covers.
A committed journalist and producer, she has always excelled in finding extraordinary stories that people can relate to.
Helen Roberts has been a journalist for almost 20 years and is based between London & New Delhi.
She has covered some of the most important stories of our time, and built a respected career writing for the world’s largest and most popular publications.
Helen started on women’s magazines, before going freelance to ghost write a book about sexual abuse, commissioned by Hodder & Stoughton.
As a London-based journalist Helen interviewed a long list of extraordinary people and travelled all over the UK covering important issues.
There after, she travelled to South America and South East Asia and focused her skills internationally, before landing in India. The move became permanent when she launched Cover Asia Press agency, in 2012, with a Delhi based photojournalist and film maker.
She went on to manage a team of reporters and photographers securing exclusives and investigative reports for front page news from across India. She continued writing in-depth interviews and features particularly focusing on women’s issues including surrogacy, child marriage, rape, acid attacks and honour killings.
She has primarily written for the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Mail Online, The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Sun, New York Post, Gulf News, Grazia, Marie Claire, Stylist and many more.
Interviewer
Helen has interviewed a long list of extraordinary people and those involved in sensitive and high profile stories. She's interviewed the youngest woman on death row in a secure US prison, a newly converted Jain nun in India who abandoned her successful New York fashion career, British acid attack survivor Katie Piper, and the brave mother of 2012’s Delhi gang rape victim. She’s also arranged interviews with popular personalities and politicians.
Editor
Helen co-founded the successful press agency Cover Asia Press. As Editor she managed a team of reporters, photographers and videographers contributing stories from across India for international media. In a highly pressurised environment, she dealt with busy news and feature desks from some of the world’s top selling publications on a daily basis. She was responsible for managing and editing breaking news as well as investigative news and sensitive features.
Producer
After years as a successful journalist Helen recently began producing documentaries. She is highly experienced at finding extraordinary people with interesting stories to share and producing programmes that people can relate to. Helen works with talented film maker Tanzeel Ur Rehman on producing heart-warming and ethical content from across Asia.
Ghost Writer
Helen has written many first person literature for newspapers and magazines from the point of view of popular personalities, industry experts and members of the public. In 2009 she was responsible for ghost writing Silenced, a sensitive book about sexual abuse in the family, published by Hodder & Stoughton, which went on to sell over 115,000 copies worldwide.
Guest Speaker
Having covered many international news events and reported on important women's issues, Helen has often been asked to speak and write as a guest speaker. She has been invited many times onto BBC radio and written opinion pieces for UK publications, including Cosmopolitan and Stylist magazines. She has also given lectures on feature writing, on the Journalism course at Cardiff University.
